Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Dental Implants

What are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is an ideal tooth restoration for people who are missing one or more teeth as a result of injury, periodontal disease, or any other reason. It is a metal post that an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon surgically positions into the jawbone where teeth are missing. These metal anchors act as tooth root substitutes. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. The dental implant functions as a substitute for a missing tooth root and becomes the permanent structure to which a crown or bridge can be secured.

Am I A Candidate for Dental Implants?

To receive implants, you need to have healthy gums and adequate bone to support the implant. If you are considering implants, your mouth must be examined thoroughly and your medical and dental history reviewed. If your mouth is not ideal for implants, ways of improving outcome, such as bone grafting, may be recommended. You must also be committed to excellent oral hygiene and regular dental visits as these are critical to the long-term success of dental implants.

Are Dental Implants Covered by Insurance?

Some insurance providers now cover dental implants.  Please check with your insurance company to see if they offer coverage.
